Hayes and David’s story started the way a lot of good ones do, through mutual friends and a lot of timing. After graduating from Appalachian State, David moved back to Raleigh, North Carolina, and lived with his brother, Jack, while they started their careers. A few miles away, Hayes was doing the same, beginning her career as a dental assistant.
For a while, they ran in the same circles without ever actually meeting. They spent weekends out with friends, often at the same places around Raleigh, just not at the same time. That finally changed after about a year, when they ended up at the same night of Beach Music. The night kept going, and it ended with dancing together in a friend’s apartment to songs that would later make their way onto their wedding playlist.
After a few dates, David joined Hayes to meet her family for Heather’s birthday on September 21st. A few days later, on September 25th, 2021, Hayes said yes to David’s proposal to be his girlfriend. From there, they were inseparable (David even cut back on golf to make more time for Hayes, which says a lot).
In 2022, Hayes moved in with David, and they added another member to the family: Riggs, an eight-week-old English Springer Spaniel. Riggs immediately became the center of the house, and with a bigger home life and a growing sense of what they wanted next, they decided to make a move. In June 2023, Hayes, David, and Riggs took a leap and relocated to Charleston, South Carolina.
Charleston quickly felt like the right fit. Time on the water, a city with character, and still close enough to family. And for Riggs, it meant more chances to swim, which didn’t hurt.
In May 2025, Hayes and David closed on their first home in Charleston, which made everything feel even more real. What Hayes didn’t know was that David had already been holding onto a ring since April and was planning the proposal for months.
On July 26th, 2025, David proposed to Hayes at Pitt Street Bridge in the Old Village of Mount Pleasant, right by the water. It was simple, meaningful, and perfectly “them”.
As we get ready for September 19th, we are eternally grateful for the people who have been part of our lives and supported us along the way. This day isn’t just about the two of us, it’s also about the friends and family who helped shape our story. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone and start our next chapter as Mr. and Mrs. Adams!
Love,
David & Hayes
